The pace of the train tour is slow and convenient. We don’t rush from Point A to Point B, but we still visit all the places worthwhile seeing. You will discover interesting places you’ve never heard of before!

On June 1st, 2006, Transnet announced that no more Charter trains would run from 1 January 2007. Hence, alternative means of taking passengers to their holiday destinations. The main difference now is that once we arrive at our destination, we sleep off the train and travel on the scheduled Shosholoza Meyl trains.

The tour company now utilises Shosholoza Meyl’s (the government’s train & service provider) Tourist Class trains. i.e.: The Trans Karoo, Trans Orange, Trans Natal & Algoa, as well as the upmarket Premier Classe train, the luxurious Shongololo Express train (belonging to Rovos Rail) as well as the legendary, famous and ultra-luxurious Blue Train.

A travel journal designed by Glenda Viljoen to be completed during the tour. Product and kit contents will be designed specifically for the tour. There will be time set aside each day for those who would like to join the sessions to scrapbook their journey. The cost of the scrapbook component is additional to the train bus tour.
Detailed class information and requirements will be emailed closer to the the time.

Glenda Viljoen, one of the leading doyens of the paper craft industry in South Africa, will be teaching during the tour.

Her primary goal is to take scrapbooking on a never ending journey beyond mundane, repetitious themes and content to an ever upward attainment of new and exciting layouts and new ideas. She is a certified Ranger Instructor, enabling her to educate and inspire others in the use of inks, stains, paints, embossing products and techniques.

She designs layouts and teaches classes at major events and personalized classes as well as retailer education classes for the largest local scrapbook distributor in South Africa, Trocraft.

In June 2016, in partnership with Trocraft, she launched her own collection, Penelope Dee...South African manufactured papercraft products.

She has never lost sight of the purpose to leave a legacy of memories while enjoying the creative journey..

This is an inaugural upmarket Premier Classe Train & Flight tour package to the beautiful Namaqualand on the South African West Coast. It is at the end of the rainy season and the flowers will be in its splendid beauty. There is nothing else like this natural phenomenon. The flowers are normally in abundance, the variety and colours almost unlimited, the ‘veld’ lush and the weather good. The flower season promises to be good. During this tour we’ll travel wide and far, not only to see the daisies but to experience the region, the people, the small towns and the villages.

We are going to be taken to places where tour groups normally don’t go. Just think about places like Paternoster and Darling. You will do some wine tasting and take pictures of a magnificent waterfall. Walk in the ‘veld’ with flowers from horizon to horizon. Bend your knees and discover small and tiny flowers. We’ll travel on the luxurious Premier Classe train, sleep in reputable hotels and travel by a charter bus before returning by flight. In practice it means that we’ll be two days longer in Namaqualand compared to train-only tours.

The tour company now utilises Shosholoza Meyl’s (the government’s train & service provider) Tourist Class trains ie: The Trans Karoo, Trans Orange, Trans Natal & Algoa, as well as the upmarket Premier Classe train, the luxurious Shongololo Express train (belonging to Rovos Rail) as well as the legendary, famous and ultra-luxurious Blue Train.

Alcohol on the train: Passengers are allowed to bring their own alcohol onto the train but may only consume it in their compartments. It may not be taken to the dining car or any other public areas. Beer, cold drinks, wine and hard liquor are for sale on the train at the tuck shop in the dining car. No ice is for sale. Please bring your own.

Note: The porter carrying your luggage from your car into the station is NOT allowed onto the platform. A different porter will take over the duties. You then have to tip both porters.

There is security staff working on the train.
